It's important to underscore this overriding fact: women are not just victims of conflict-they are agents of peace and agents of change.

Being LGBT does not make you less human.

You have to test your ideas in a public forum.

Being gay is not a Western invention. It is a human reality.

No practice or tradition trumps the human rights that belong to all of us.

Freedom means the right to assemble, organize, and debate openly. It means not taking citizens away from their loved ones and jailing them, mistreating them, or denying them their freedom or dignity because of peaceful expression of their ideas and opinions.

Do what is necessary to be resilient. You will get knocked down. What matters is that you get back up.

One of the reasons this election is so important is because the Supreme Court hangs in the balance. We need to overturn that terrible Supreme Court decision, Citizens United, and then reform our whole campaign finance system.

In every country today, there is politics. It may be authoritarian politics, but there is politics.

I have a history with charismatic, attractive men who just wear me out.

We should remember that just as a positive outlook on life can promote good health, so can everyday acts of kindness.

Struggles do not end when countries attempt the transition to democracy.

Women standing up for each other is critically important.

At the risk of appearing predictable, the Bible was and remains the biggest influence on my thinking. I was raised reading it, memorizing passages from it and being guided by it. I still find it a source of wisdom, comfort and encouragement.

I believe that the rights of women and girls is the unfinished business of the 21st century.
