I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.
Michael JordanRead
Don't be like me. Be better than me. That's the goal.
Interpretation
Aspire to surpass others rather than simply mimic them.
In this quote, Michael Jordan encourages individuals to strive for their own greatness rather than just imitating his achievements. He emphasizes the importance of personal growth and the pursuit of excellence as the ultimate goal in life, urging others to elevate their standards and aim for higher aspirations.
In practice
During a team meeting to inspire players to improve their skills.
I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.
There are no shortcuts. I approached practices the same way I approached games. You can't turn it on and off like a faucet. I couldn't dog it during practice and then, when I needed that extra push late in the game, expect it to be there. Very few people get anywhere by taking shortcuts.
Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
Success isn't something you chase. It's something you have to put forth the effort for constantly. Then maybe it'll come when you least expect it. Most people don't understand that.
It's easier for me to get ready for a game on the road because you're expected to lose when you play away from home. That's a challenge to right there and that perks my competitive juices.
I don't believe in this business of being behind, better to be in front.
Make your mistakes, take your chances, look silly, but keep on going. Donβt freeze up.
Keep your dreams ALIVE. No matter how hard it gets, no matter how many people talk about you; they're going to throw dirt on you but that's alright, when they put you in that box (after your dead), they're going to put dirt on you some more, so that's okay - GO, don't be afraid, have NO FEAR.
It isn't enough to think outside the box. Thinking is passive. Get used to acting outside the box.
The truth is, if we have our own reasons for doing something - reasons that we endorse - we're more likely to do it; we're more likely to stick with it.
When I thought about it, I said "if you quit now, how you gonna explain to any other kid coming up that if something don't go their way, they're supposed to get up and go hard at it next time?" You can't if you quit.
