Lord, make my way prosperous, not that I achieve high station, but that my life may be an exhibit to the value of knowing God.
Jim ElliotRead
Lord, make my way prosperous not that I achieve high station, but that my life be an exhibit to the value of knowing God.
Interpretation
The quote emphasizes the importance of living a life that reflects the value of knowing God, rather than seeking personal success.
Jim Elliot's quote expresses a desire for prosperity that serves a greater purpose than personal ambition. It suggests that true success is measured not by one's status or achievements but by the impact one's life has in demonstrating the value of a relationship with God. Elliot encourages individuals to seek a life that showcases faith and divine principles, turning personal accomplishments into a witness of spiritual devotion.
In practice
In a sermon about the importance of faith and purpose, this quote could inspire the congregation.
Lord, make my way prosperous, not that I achieve high station, but that my life may be an exhibit to the value of knowing God.
God deliver me from the dread asbestos of “other things.” Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I may be aflame.
I have felt the impact of your prayer in these past weeks. I am certain now that nothing has had a more powerful infl uence on this life of mine than your prayers.
God, I pray light these idle sticks of my life and may I burn up for thee.
Father, make of me a crisis man. Bring those I contact to decision. Let me not be a milepost on a single road; make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing Christ in me.
None of it gets to be 'old stuff', for it is Christ in print, the Living Word. We wouldn't think of rising in the morning without a facewash, but we often neglect that purgative cleansing of the Word of the Lord. It wakes us up to our responsibility
Our Lord never referred to unanswered prayer. He taught that prayers are always answered: “Everyone who asks receives”. And He implied that prayers are answered rightly because of the heavenly Father's wisdom: “Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him”.
My life is one long daily, hourly record of answered prayer. For physical health, for mental overstrain, for guidance given marvelously, for errors and dangers averted, for enmity to the Gospel subdued, for food provided at the exact hour needed, for everything that goes to make up life and my poor service. I can testify, with a full and often wonder-stricken awe, that I believe God answers prayer.
The truth is that the Spirit of the living God is guaranteed to ask you to go somewhere or do something you wouldn't normally want or choose to do. The Spirit will lead you into the way of the cross, as He led Jesus to the cross, and that is definitely not a safe or pretty or comfortable place to be. The Holy Spirit of God will mold you into the person you were made to be.
This is me, a sinner on whom the Lord has turned his gaze. And this is what I said when they asked me if I would accept my election as pontiff. I am a sinner, but I trust in the infinite mercy and patience of our Lord Jesus Christ, and I accept in a spirit of penance.
I'm not walking by sight- I'm, walking by faith
Sometimes God lets you be in a situation that only He can fix so that you can see that He is the One who fixes it. Rest. He's got it.
