Coaches win practices, players win games
Pete CarrilRead
Once practice starts, we work hard, and that's the best conditioning there is. Everything counts. Every little thing counts. Run hard, play hard, go after the ball hard, guard hard. If you play soft (what I call signing a 'non-aggression pact' with your teammates), you won't ever get into shape.
Interpretation
Effort and dedication in practice lead to improvement; every action matters.
This quote emphasizes the importance of hard work and commitment during practice in order to achieve peak performance. It conveys the idea that every small effort contributes to overall conditioning and success, and that a lack of intensity can prevent one from reaching their full potential.
In practice
A coach might use this quote to inspire athletes before a game.
Coaches win practices, players win games
Do you know why the Indian rain dances always worked? Because the Indians would keep dancing until it rained.
Write every day, line by line, page by page, hour by hour. Do this despite fear. For above all else, beyond imagination and skill, what the world asks of you is courage, courage to risk rejection, ridicule and failure. As you follow the quest for stories told with meaning and beauty, study thoughtfully but write boldly. Then, like the hero of the fable, your dance will dazzle the world.
You might not write well every day, but you can always edit a bad page. You can't edit a blank page.
Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.
Man matures through work which inspires him to difficult good.
Be bold. If you're going to make an error, make a doozy, and don't be afraid to hit the ball.
