This quote expresses the paradoxical tendency of people to want to be seen as unique or different from others while simultaneously accepting and conforming to societal norms and expectations. It highlights the human desire for individuality in contrast with the universal truths that apply to everyone, suggesting that we want to be exceptions even in situations where exceptions are not typically allowed.
