Today we read books 'extensively,' often without sustained focus, and with rare exceptions we read each book only once. We value quantity of reading over quality of reading. We have no choice, if we want to keep up with the broader culture.

You know, nothing is more important than education, because nowhere are our stakes higher; our future depends on the quality of education of our children today.

The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours

Immerse yourself in the curriculum of grace.

Students deserve great teachers. And teachers deserve the support they need to become great.

And books, they offer one hope -- that a whole universe might open up from between the covers, and falling into that universe, one is saved.
