Interpretation
The quote reflects on the disparity between experiences desired and those actually encountered in life.
George R. R. Martin's quote captures the essence of life's unpredictability and the inevitability of facing both unwanted experiences and missed opportunities. It suggests that desire is secondary to the journey itself and emphasizes the importance of embracing life, regardless of whether it aligns with one's wishes.

I hate outlines. I have a broad sense of where the story is going; I know the end, I know the end of the principal characters, and I know the major turning points and events from the books, the climaxes for each book, but I don't necessarily know each twist and turn along the way. That's something I discover in the course of writing and that's what makes writing enjoyable. I think if I outlined comprehensively and stuck to the outline the actual writing would be boring.

My childhood was quite extreme. Sometimes I was so weak I could not stand up. But now I am so strong. Life is unpredictable
Our life is...a time in which sadness and joy kiss each other at every moment.
And here am I, budding among the ruins with only sorrow to bite on, as if weeping were a seed and I the earth's only furrow.
Freedom begins the moment you realize someone else has been writing your story and it's time you took the pen from his hand and started writing it yourself.
