If I am not good to myself, how can I expect anyone else to be good to me?
Maya AngelouRead
As soon as healing takes place, go out and heal somebody else.
Interpretation
Healing is a process that should be shared once it is achieved.
This quote emphasizes the importance of sharing one's own healing experiences with others. Once an individual has found healing from their own struggles, they should extend their compassion and support to those in need, thereby creating a cycle of healing and community support that benefits both the healed and the healer.
In practice

The white American man makes the white American woman maybe not superfluous but just a little kind of decoration. Not really important to turning around the wheels of the state. Well the black American woman has never been able to feel that way. I think Clinton, after getting into office and into Washington, was shocked at being bludgeoned. So he spent time trying to be all things to all people - one way guaranteed not to be successful or respected in a lion's den. You can't just play around with all those big cats - you've got to take somebody on.
Great ideas come from everywhere if you just listen and look for them. You never know who's going to have a great idea.
Humility, that low, sweet root, from which all heavenly virtues shoot.
We've got a generation now who were born with semiequality. They don't know how it was before, so they think, this isn't too bad. We're working. We have our attache' cases and our three piece suits. I get very disgusted with the younger generation of women. We had a torch to pass, and they are just sitting there. They don't realize it can be taken away. Things are going to have to get worse before they join in fighting the battle.
After that [father's death] I never cried with any real conviction, nor expected much of anyone's God except indifference, nor loved deeply without fear that it would cost me dearly in pain. At the age of five I had become a skeptic and began to sense that any happiness that came my way might be the prelude to some grim cosmic joke.
God never promises to remove us from our struggles. He does promise, however, to change the way we look at them.
